ZA Za Zing CAJUN Vegetarian SAVORY BREAD PUDDING... With Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce

Awhile back, my good blog buddy Linda at COOKING TIP OF THE DAY was sponsoring a contest. The winner got two bottles of COUNTRY BOB's ALL PURPOSE SAUCE. Well, I was thrilled when my number came up. More BBQ sauce, who wouldn't want that??? Yesterday, I showed some average food items spruced up with a little of the za za zing of the sauce. Today, I want to share the first of TWO original recipes I created using Country Bob's Amazing Elixir...

I recently blogged about Savory Bread Pudding. It's a type of stuffing or dressing, but made with milk instead of broth or stock. It is very very tasty, and makes a wonderful side dish with turkey. Much better tasting than stuffing, and makes cooking your bird easier.

I made this the same night I made the pork sausage savory pudding I blogged about a few days ago. One of my guests was not able to eat pork, and I was excited to try two recipes for the same final product...

So, here's what I did...

I filled a 6 X 6 pyrex dish with some of my FUGASSE BREAD that you can find by clicking HERE. I coarsely tour the bread into @3/4 inch chunks. I added 1/2 cup mushrooms chopped and half a cup of onions, diced.

Note: the measurements are approximates, and were used for a small casserole dish. If you are using a larger dish, add more ingredients for the same taste... probably safe to double everything.

Add 1 stick melted butter, spread around the bread (don't worry, you will mix it soon).

add 2 cups buttermilk...

Add three eggs...

I also added some of my Cajun spices I use to make Cajun rub. You can use any commercial Cajun spice, about 4 tablespoons.

And now, get dirty and have fun. Mix with your hands. Be careful not to over mix till you have a bowl full of crumbs. The goop will be absorbed into the bread as it cooks (be sure not to make the bread chunks too big). If you need to add more milk to make the goopy consistency shown below, add away.

Next, I poured about 1/2 bottle (the end of it) of the Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce, forming a thin layer over the top.

And finally, I added some shredded Provolone Cheese!

Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour. Let stand for 15 minutes before serving.

And here they are side by side, the Pork Savory Bread Pudding and my all new COUNTRY BOB's ...
Za Za Zing CAJUN VEGGIE BREAD PUDDING.

And the verdict... I missed the pork and bacon that was in the original. BUT, when I had the original, I really missed the extra tang of the Country Bob's Sauce. The sauce really added something special. When planning your Christmas or Thanksgiving menu, consider a savory bread pudding. Far superior to a stuffing, no health issues with an over stuffed bird, and the taste is wonderful. Adding a spicy sauce on the top will only make a great thing better...

Give it a try!

And a BTW, I am leaving you for a bit... Not as a blogger, I have fresh posts in the can as they say, and will be posting original content each of the next few days til I get back. But I am having a bit of a family thing going on, and need to spend a week with my sainted Mother (will try to give her a cooking lesson or two, but you know Mothers). So, I will not be able to visit your sites, nor comment on the wonderful things you will be doing. I will miss you all, and will be back Sunday (but remember to check back here daily for that fresh content I mentioned).

TODAY IS THE

  2. Just getting all caught up on your recent posts here. It's been a busy week and I know you are away anyway so I could be a slacker. This looks wonderful! Tamy did a giveaway for that sauce at the Krazy Kitchen too - I'm going to have to get some and give it a try! Hope all is well with your mom. See you when you get back :-)

  4. Elixir! Ha ha that reminds me of "WIcked". I loved my free sauce I got from Bob, but cannot find it locally even though it is suppose to be in our big chain grocery store. I'll keep looking.....

  6. Hi Dave. Haven't been around all week (writing away furiously) but am just catching up now. I love your bread pudding. I make a savoury one, too, with caramelized onions & brie.

I hope all goes well while you're away.
