Trip to the FARMER's MARKET

Far as the eye can see...
I have plans this week to work on some different rubs and sauces. So, I made my list, and headed to our FARMER's MARKET! Like a kid in a candy shop, a scoop of spice is just $1 and they are terrifically stocked...
18 bags of spice later, I was done... Star Anis, even Saffron... They had everything I needed except vanilla bean.
Then we went shopping... LOOK AT ALL THE PEPPERS!
Yeap, bought some sweet peppers (the long ones) and some really hot HabaƱeros! And my wife wanted some of the cheery tomatoes.
And eggplant for only 50 cents!
When we got home, this was our haul for the day...Blueberries, 6 more ears of corn (I can't stop, 6 ears for a dollar fifty!), portobello mushrooms, candy onions, squash, bell peppers and all that fun!

Can't wait to see what I can do with these!

  4. I used to be able to buy bulk spices like that, but the store closed.. Doesn't Paul Kirk live in Shawnee? I like his books too!

  6. oh my - you are VERY fortunate with their being such great spices at your local farmers market. i documented and wrote about our local farmers market for the last 3 months in my blog about my town http://www.thepicaroon.blogspot.com, and we don't have anything like yours does in that arena of deliciousness! otherwise, i would be in there making some spice rubs myself! thanks for visiting my creative blog and for your kind words
i love your desire to expand on your cooking prowess and i hope you had a great cooking weekend! well, off to deal with a tomato pie in my kitchen

  8. I live in a financially distressed (challenged is the politically correct word, I think) area. We're lucky to have spices in the red and white cans. To find foods of your quality and abundance and choice, I would have to travel an hour or more.

Such a fabulous farmers market. I would be like a kid in a toy store, running from bin to bin.

I'm looking forward to seeing how you use your riches!
