Time for You to Show your Love - You Vote, I'll make a Raspberry Dipping Sauce for your Brownies
Have you all been following the news around the foodie website???
Foodbuzz is having a little contest. While I don't expect to actually win, I sure would like the opportunity to challenge myself and see how far I can get. It is a series of challenges. the first was to write a little post about who we are and what our blog is all about.
I did that, and you can read that post by clicking HERE.
I was thrilled with the number of responses I received, and gratified by the folks that thought I (at the least) had accepted the first challenge and did a pretty good job of it.
But letting me know that you liked me is a wonderful thing... for my ego, what I really need now is for you, my friends, to let
Foodbuzz know that you like me... you really like me.
Much like Sally Field had to "live down" her early classic roll as the flying nun before she won an Academy Award (and uttered the famous catch phrase, "you like me, you really like me" during her acceptance speech).
I have a challenge of living down my short sighted blog name choice. I like to think I am more than just a meat guy (not that there's anything wrong with that). And especially after spending a week showing nothing but Pulled Pork recipes (and there are still more to come), I have chosen this, "please vote for me" post as an opportunity to share a Raspberry Dipping sauce perfect to have as a garnish for a brownie... And perfect as an example that I am more than a grill guy.
There were over 1800 foodies originally planning to compete. Only 400 of us (optimistic of me) will be moving on to the next challenge. Half the score will come from a judges panel on the quality of our work, and half will come from you the voters. Foodbuzz is allowing you all to vote for several folks. So, no need to pick between me and another blogger you like... vote for us both (as long as you don't forget to vote for me). Actually, you can vote for 400 people. Hopefully I fit in your top 400 blogs.
And there are no rules against bribes!
So, here's the deal. Next time you are driving through western Kansas City, drop me an email. If you vote for me, I owe you a brownie.
But a brownie with this Raspberry dipping sauce will really make you want to stand up and sing my praises...
So, plan ahead, vote now and get your brownie in the future...

But just in case you can't wait, go ahead and make yourself a raspberry sauce. Right now, in KC they are selling raspberries for just a dollar a pint. What's not to love.
And the sauce is very easy... Can be used as a topping (below), or as the photo above shows, a dipping sauce.
Do a quick rinse of the berries to wash off any DDT or E-Coli, and dump in a sauce pan.
Top with 3 TBS of sugar and set the heat on medium.
It will take about 10 minutes for the berries to start to break down. Keep stirring and keep watching the berries become liquid.
After about another 20 minutes, there should be no hint of berry left, and just a red jelly with a lot of seeds.
I used a sweet Asian rice wine vinegar to thin the sauce a bit. But, depending on what you use it for, you may not need this.
So, pour the liquid through a mesh to get rid of the seeds. You will probably need to use a spatula to force the thick liquid through the hole.
And there you go. If you like the heart look, it is easy to recreate. Just make two dots next to each other, and then use the flat side of a spoon to swirl them down to a point.
Here's some photos to give you an idea of what I mean...
Click that little orange box, and go vote now! Thanks, then start planning that trip to Kansas for a brownie!
you got my vote
ReplyDeleteyou got my vote...although truth be told, I'd rather have you serve me a weeks worth of pulled pork recipes AND the brownie.
ReplyDeleteI'm off to vote for you Dave! And not just because I wouldn't be able to make this raspberry sauce without feeling extreme guilt if i didn't...but because I think you totally deserve it!
ReplyDeleteHey, just voted for you. KC bloggers gotta stick together.
ReplyDeleteOff to vote for you Dave - fingers crossed we both make it to the next round! :D
ReplyDeleteYUM!! I really want some of this raspberry sauce drizzled on my brownie right this minute. Good luck, Dave...I voted for you!!! =)
ReplyDeleteI voted! Please send my sauce... LOL you are amazing and it's never to late to change your blog name - you know to something like - My Year on the Grill now known as Dave the wonder chef...
ReplyDeleteThe only reason I'd be driving through Western Kansas City is to find that cul-de-sac, that grill, and some grilled meat. I'd take a Brownie if the crumbs would lead me there. You've got my vote Dave.
ReplyDeleteGreat recipe! Got you covered, cher!
